The Hackers

The hackers, who are part of the notorious ShinyHunters hacking group, stole the data from an unsecured Snowflake cloud storage account. They have also stolen data from a number of other victims.

The Data

The hackers stole the call and text records for "nearly all" AT&T customers. The data includes phone numbers, call times, and text messages.

The Payment

AT&T paid the hackers $370,000 in bitcoin. The payment was made in May 2023.

The Deletion

The hackers have provided AT&T with a video demonstrating proof of deletion. However, it is not clear whether the data has actually been destroyed.

 The Risks

Even if the data has been deleted, there is still a risk that it could be recovered. Hackers often keep copies of stolen data in case they need to use it for blackmail or other purposes.

What You Can Do

There are a few things you can do to protect yourself from hackers: – Use a strong password for your phone account. – Be careful about clicking on links in text messages or emails. – Keep your phone software up to date.
